Peter G. Kalivas (Artistic Director, The PGK Project) originally from Long Island, New York, has been a respected artist in dance for more than twenty years whose performances and work have been presented throughout the world. A Fulbright Scholar, Cultural Envoy and Ambassador to the US State Department of Education and Culture he trained at The University of the Arts and The Pennsylvania Ballet (Philadelphia), The Joffrey Ballet School and The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre School (New York) and was an original member of Sean Curran Company in (New York). He has worked with Judith Jamison (Artistic Director of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre), was a soloist and assistant to the Director of The Iwanson Dance Company and The Bavarian State Opera Ballet (Munich, Germany), worked with Donald Byrd (Choreographer of "The Color Purple" on Broadway), David Storey DanceWorks (New York), and a guest artist of The London Opera among many other astounding artists worldwide.
The first American Choreographer with work in the permanent repertoire of a Central Asian company (The State Opera/Ballet Astana, Kazakhstan), recently (November 2008) his company, (The PGK Project) was the first dance company to appear at The Opera/Ballet Theatre Shymkent,Kazakhstan.
Also, working in Theatre and Opera he was the Associate Choreographer of “Kilt”, Off-Broadway in New York, appeared in “Cats” on Broadway, various National tours of Musical Theatre productions and remains a much sought after and respected Master teacher, lecturer and consultant on dance.
In San Diego he was a member of both Malashock Dance & Company and The San Diego Ballet (originating roles in both companies), has performed with Jean Isaacs and The San Diego Opera (“Aida” and the world premiere production of “The Conquistador”, where he also assistant choreographer). He choreographed The Diversionary Theatre’s Award winning production of Paula Vogel’s “The Long Christmas Ride Home”, J Company’s Critically Acclaimed Production of Disney’s “High School Musical”, teaches for The La Jolla Playhouse, is The Movement Director for The San Diego Opera’s Young Singers Summer Workshop and former faculty in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at California State University San Marcos.
He is the Artistic Director of “Dance Theatre” (Inspired by Theatre/Created through Dance) for The Diversionary Theatre, producer of “Dance n’ Dine” at Café La Maze in National City, resident choreographer for J Company in La Jolla, and produces The PGK Project’s annual season at The Performance Annex in City Heights each spring and programming for their International Dance Festival in August.
